Once your dentist has established the suitability of your teeth for dental crowns, the treatment itself will usually take two appointments. During the first your dentist will prepare your teeth and take dental impressions. Your crowns will be created from these impressions in a laboratory. At your second appointment your dentist will fit your crowns securely into place before cleaning and polishing them.
Whilst there are several options for dental crown materials, we use ceramic or porcelain bonded metal. Ceramic crowns contain no metal, offer very natural healing, and can be easily colour matched to your natural teeth. Porcelain bonded metal crowns can also be colour matched but have a metal core at their centre, making them more durable than all-ceramic crowns.
If you look after them and follow our dentist’s advice, your dental crowns should last for many years. They are made from robust materials and secured by a strong adhesive. Just as with your natural teeth, a good oral hygiene routine, and care when eating can enhance the lifetime of your dental crowns.
